Forest Safari
Through Gate Number 2. Also known as Salkumar gate of Jaldapara National Park
Jaldapara Forest Safari from Salkumar Gate
If you are planning a jungle safari at Jaldapara National Park, the Salkumar Gate—also known as Gate Number 2—is your ideal entry point to explore the wild heart of Dooars. Opened recently to reduce crowding at the main Madarihat Gate, this gate offers a more relaxed and immersive forest experience.
Types of Safaris Available at Salkumar Gate
Visitors can enjoy both elephant safaris and jeep safaris from this gate. Each type of safari offers a unique way to explore the forest and spot wildlife including Indian bison, wild elephants, leopards, deer, peacocks, and the elusive one-horned rhinoceros.
Q. Is Jaldapara National Park Open Now? (Updated October 2025)
A. Yes, Jaldapara National Park is open to tourists. The park remains closed only during the monsoon months, typically from mid-June to mid-September.
In early October 2025, North Bengal, including Jaldapara, experienced heavy rainfall on the night of 4th October and morning of 5th October, which led to temporary flooding and a brief suspension of safaris and tourist movement.
We are happy to share that tourist activities have now resumed through the South Gate (Salkumar Gate). The forest and surrounding areas have recovered fully, and normal operations have restarted.
However, safari access through the North Gate remains temporarily closed due to a damaged bridge near the ticket counter, which is currently under repair. Once the bridge work is completed, the North Gate is expected to reopen soon.
For visitors planning a trip in October 2025, Jaldapara is safe, accessible, and beautiful once again, offering the same rich wildlife and forest experience that travellers love.
