If you're planning your stay with us, here's how to reach Shampan Resort from key entry points in North Bengal:

Getting There

Shampan is a peaceful boutique resort located just 500 meters before the Salkumar Gate (Gate No. 1) of Jaldapara National Park. Nestled right beside the lush forest, it offers quick access to both jeep and elephant safari routes through the lesser-crowded Salkumar side.

From Bagdogra Airport (IXB)

Bagdogra is the nearest major airport and is well-connected to Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Guwahati, and other cities.

Distance: Approx. 135 kilometres
Travel Time: Around 3.5 hours by road
Toll: Approx. ₹170 one way (as of 2025)

Route:
From Bagdogra, travel towards Siliguri. Avoid entering Siliguri city to skip the traffic, and take the North Bengal Medical College road to reach Naukaghat. From there, proceed towards Jalpaiguri via Fulbari. This route continues as a four-lane highway bypassing Jalpaiguri and Maynaguri till Dhupguri, with two toll booths along the way.

At Dhupguri, take a right turn into the town, cross Dhupguri and then Falakata, and continue on the highway towards Alipurduar / Cooch Behar. Just before reaching the Torsha Bridge, you'll come across Salkumar More. Take a left turn here and drive another 15 km (about 25 minutes). Just before you reach Salkumar Gate of the Jaldapara forest, you’ll find Shampan on your left-hand side.

From New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP)

NJP is the major railway hub near Siliguri and is well-connected to all parts of India.

Distance: Approx. 125 kilometres
Travel Time: Around 3.5 hours by road
Toll: Approx. ₹170 one way (as of 2025)

Route:
From NJP station, drive to Tinbatti More Crossing (4 km). Take a left turn here and head toward Fulbari. From Fulbari, continue to Dhupguri via the four-lane National Highway 27, bypassing Jalpaiguri and Maynaguri. Cross Dhupguri and Falakata, and proceed towards Alipurduar / Cooch Behar. Just before reaching Torsha Bridge, you’ll find Salkumar More. Turn left and drive for another 15 km (approx. 25 minutes). Shampan will appear on your left, just before the Salkumar forest gate.

From Falakata Railway Station

If you’re coming from Kolkata or nearby areas, Falakata is a convenient rail option. Several overnight and day trains connect Falakata to Sealdah and Howrah, including Kanchanjunga, Teesta Torsha, Kamrup, Uttar Banga, Saraighat, and Brahmaputra Mail.

Distance: Approx. 30 kilometres
Travel Time: Around 1 hour by road

Route:
From Falakata station, head to the main road and cross the town via NH27, travelling towards Sonapur More. At Salkumar Crossing (about 15 km from the station), leave the highway and take the road toward Salkumar. Drive another 15 km, crossing Salkumar Hat, and you’ll arrive at Shampan, just before the forest gate.

From Alipurduar Railway Station

Alipurduar has two stations – Alipurduar Junction and Alipurduar Court – both well-connected to major cities in Assam, Bengal, and Bihar.

Distance: Approx. 43 kilometres
Travel Time: Around 1.5 hours by road

Route:
From the station, cross Alipurduar town and take the National Highway 27 toward Siliguri. Drive past Sonapur and cross the Torsha River Bridge. Immediately after the bridge, take a right turn at Salkumar More. Drive another 15 km, and you’ll find Shampan on the left-hand side, just before the Salkumar Gate.

From Madarihat

Madarihat is geographically close to our resort, with an aerial distance of just 6 km. However, it lies on the opposite side of Jaldapara National Park. Only forest officials and residents with permits are allowed to cross the forest by vehicle. Tourists must take a longer route via Falakata to reach Shampan.

Distance: Approx. 48 kilometres (via Falakata)
Travel Time: Around 1.5 hours by car

Route:
From Madarihat, take the Madarihat-Falakata Road to reach Falakata. From there, drive along NH27 toward Salkumar More. Take a left turn at Salkumar More, and continue for about 30 minutes to reach Shampan, located just before the gate.

Local Directions

As you approach Salkumar Gate from any direction, keep an eye on the left-hand side of the road just before reaching the gate. Shampan is adjacent to the forest boundary, offering a serene setting surrounded by greenery and the sounds of nature. Our resort is located directly on the main road, so do not take any side roads or detours.
